PaddleTribe Surf Club is a surf place that’s away from all the crowd. When I first went there, we checked in around 11 o’clock. A few members of the surf club welcomed us and helped us settle in. By afternoon we took some rest and later went for sunset with the guys to the Nirvana Beach cliff. It was a beautiful sunset, and we had tea in our hands. You can even ask the team for a small tea thermos to carry to the cliff—it makes the whole thing feel even better.
By night we went along with locals for a crab hunt around the beach. It was surprising to actually see how it’s done. After that we walked around the beach at night. It was a calm, still beach with so many stars to look at. We didn’t even know such peaceful, crowd-free beaches existed so close to Gokarna.
Next day morning we got a knock on our room from the surf club members around 6:30 AM. We woke up, had a light snack—some fruits, tea and coffee, just enough to wake us up. Then we played a few warm-up games and went straight for surf lessons. The first day was a bit tiresome at the beginning, salty and new, but fun. It felt good to break that fear of the sea. With the surfers around us, the ocean felt more like a playground than the scary place I thought it was.
By the end of the session we had brunch by PaddleTribe. It was a vegetarian brunch prepared locally by village women. It felt healthy but still filling. After that we went off to rest, tired enough to fall asleep immediately. Woke up again for the evening sunset, walked along the beach, and felt calm and fulfilled staying there.
We had booked for five days with the surf club. It’s really a surf place that exists in serenity with very few people around. They provide morning snacks, afternoon brunch, and evening tea or coffee. For night dinner you can order from a nearby hotel before 9 o’clock, and the food will be delivered to you at the surf club—so it’s simple and hassle-free. If you’re looking for a calm recreational space for a change, this is the one.
Do talk to all the surfers around—it felt nice with all the members of the surf club, almost like living in an old village lifestyle.
